This particular date on the calendar always brings about that special kind of morbid nostalgia in my life. Every year, I’m taken back to a special yet terrifying point in my life. A point that led to a few of the beliefs to which I currently cling. I was just a kid so a lot of the grown-up world was confusing and left up to my own interpretation. Those interpretations were often made through the lenses of youthful innocence.

1979 was a confusing year for a curious six year old kid. What the heck is inflation and why are so many people obsessed with it? It’s all I heard on the TV. I saw the word on the front of those fake newspapers they sold at the checkout lines in the local Albertson’s grocery store. I heard grown-ups complaining about the price of gas and the fact that we seem to be running out of it. Why can’t we get more gas? My parents assumed I was ignoring the stories I heard as they watched the news because I sure as heck ignored their instructions to do my chores on a regular basis. The truth is that I heard all those stories, I just preferred to interpret them on my terms.

I remember Three Mile Island. I couldn’t comprehend the concept of radiation, but I did understand the fact that there had been an accident at a place with  the word “nuclear” in it’s title. To me…..”nuclear” meant “blowing up the world” so I just assumed it was time to make peace with those I had wronged. At dinner that night, I ate my vegetables without being told to do so. Another frequent topic in the news those days was President Carter. The man seemed to invoke facial ticks in my father. Despite my young age, I too believed that Jimmy Carter was a wimp. He used that southern charm to convince people bad was good. He sounded like Huckleberry Hound but in reality, he was just a big old bushel of weakness. The President was supposed to be strong, powerful, and able to defeat all enemies. Everything I knew about kings, leaders, and great military men of history was that they had all performed some kind of heroic deed. My dad was the benchmark as he had just finished flying fighter jets for the Air Force. Heroes were men who had fought wars, won fights, explored uncharted lands, or defeated a determined enemy. Carter was none of those things. When the story of Jimmy Carter and the Swamp Rabbit hit the airwaves, all hope was lost. The man was a wimp.

America needed a leader. They needed a man who would lead, not follow. They needed a man who was slowly but surely starting to make waves on the campaign trail. I got my first taste of what leadership really means on this date in 1979. It was mid-afternoon in Wichita Falls, Texas and my Mom was two and a half hours away in Dallas for a class. My grandparents were coming into town the next day, so my Dad had run up to the bakery at the end of Fairway Boulevard to get some of the Cinnamon Raisin Bread my GrandBob loved so much. My brother and I were watching Popeye and eating a TV dinner when the programming was interrupted.

The sky was black. Not black like it is at night, but black like it would be if someone threw a thick blanket over the sun. There was a certain hue of temporary to the odd colors surrounding our house. A grayish luminescence alerting me to the fact that the calm afternoon I had been enjoying at recess earlier that day was long gone. The trees were bowing to the incoming force and all their leaves were turned over exposing their lighter colored underbellies as if shielding against an attack. As I stood looking out our sliding glass door into the back yard, the landscape was completely unfamiliar. I watched a large bird struggling to fly against the force of the wind. I remember wondering why the bird didn’t land and protect itself……and then BAM…..something big struck the bird and abruptly ended its ill-advised flight. Then it stopped. The debris dropped from the sky and there was an eerie calm in the air. The wind stopped. The hail stopped. The sirens stopped. It seemed like any other day except for the fact that every hair on my arm and neck were standing at rigorous attention. Goosebumps covered my flesh. This was the kind of calm a convicted killer feels in the seconds before the switch is thrown. A tornado was coming.

My little brother Ryan and I had been taught early and often in the Texas School System that preparation saves lives. We had dragged our mattresses into the hallway just as we had been instructed to do. We were under them but staring down the hallway at the TV. Woody Woodpecker had just started but its flickering images provided only a focal point to keep us distracted during the terror. The sounds that followed will never be forgotten. I hugged Ryan tightly as what sounded like a fleet of runaway locomotives hovered over our heads. The electricity went out and Ryan began to cry. He was only 3 at the time and this was one of the few times in his life where he ever shown fear. It was the first time in my life I ever felt like Ryan’s protector. The glass around the house began to shatter and sounds I hope to never hear again began to fill my ears just as Dad came bursting through the front door. He ran immediately into his own bedroom and dragged his own king sized mattress into the hallway. It was then that I noticed the two strangers he had brought with him. Two strangers that needed shelter and were offered such by my father when it would have been just as easy to fly past them and worry only about his own safety. They survived an ordeal that would have most assuredly ended their lives had it not been for the budding Giles family. Dad’s presence and enveloping arms allowed me to cry and panic like the terrified six year old I truly was. All hell officially broke loose in those moments. It wasn’t like it is often portrayed in the movies. There were no distant screams from unfamiliar throats. There were horrific, indescribable sounds. The sounds of brick, metal, glass, and wood being ripped apart by an unstoppable force. It was horrifying.

Then, just as quickly as it started, it ended. The sounds could still be heard, but there was a saddening and yet comforting distance in their tones. The sounds were now being injected into the lives of people in distant, unfamiliar neighborhoods. We slowly emerged from the protection of our mattresses. I half expected to find open sky over my head, but our home was mostly intact. The rest of the town and even some of our direct neighbors didn’t fare so well. But we survived. The leadership came in the following days. By the way, we still have no idea who those strangers were.

Leadership came in the form of the people who weren’t afraid to face the task at hand. The sounds of chainsaws and hammers filled the air for weeks. With no power and the primitive communications systems of the late seventies, clean-up was difficult but hard work triumphed over tragedy as it so often does. Those who waited for someone else to come take care of them got back to normal at a much later date than those who were willing to get in there and get their hands dirty. Those who gathered in cowardly circles and leveled their collective blame against someone else for what nature had delivered missed some terrific life lessons. Until that storm hit, I had been under the delusion that my world was insulated from the horror I saw on the news. Suddenly, my world was the news. I saw the strength of men and women not ideology and charm. I saw the resolve of a community working together, not one suckling at the teat of handouts and unjustified expectations. I saw REAL hope and change on the horizon as our country waved goodbye to one of its weakest leaders and all of the broken promises, failed expectations, and empty facades of accomplishment he left in his wake. I cheered with all the understanding my youth would permit as the rebuilding of Wichita Falls, Texas coincided nicely with the rise of one of our country’s strongest leaders.

Flash forward to today: History truly has a way of repeating itself. I believe our current President is just as weak as Jimmy Carter, but the similarities don’t end there. The lessons I learned in the nightmare of Terrible Tuesday, as it has come to be known in Wichita Falls, reached far beyond the destruction of that powerful storm. Where I had interpreted weakness, Terrible Tuesday delivered examples of strength. Those who sat back and waited for someone else to fix the problems delivered by that storm are the ones who would vote for His Barackness in November. The people who climbed up on their roofs with a hammer and some shingles while waiting for the insurance company to get to them…..those were the ones with a clear vision of reality. Those were the ones with a sense of personal responsibility. Those were the people who realized that it is NOT the job of government to run their lives. Those people had no room for fairy tales…..they lived in reality.

Just this past Friday, while speaking at what the White House is calling the “Forum on Women and The Economy,” Obama stated that after his daughters were born, he and Michelle – both Harvard Law graduates – couldn’t afford the “luxury” of having her stay at home with the children. Just so we’re clear…..Michelle Obama made $316,000 per year in those days. Obama was earning $168,000 from the US Taxpayer. He went on to say that he knew Michelle “felt guilty” when she was at home with the girls because she wasn’t giving enough time to work. She had a heavy “burden” in those days because of the busy travel schedule of His Barackness.

Are you kidding me? Are we supposed to take this nonsense and believe that the life of a Senator and a highly paid University of Chicago Medical School “Executive Director of Community and External Affairs” somehow relate to the struggles of a normal family? Barack Hussein Obama is so far out of touch with reality, he reminds me of that bird I watched struggling against the wind as that tornado rolled into Wichita Falls 33 years ago today. He believes the nonsense that flows from his mouth just as much as that bird believed he would outrun the storm if he just flapped his wings hard and fast enough. He ignores the reality that surrounds him and believes his ideological instinct will overpower any opponent’s so called “logic.” In reality, the American people are heaving big old pieces of debris into the wind. Obama has skillfully avoided them thus far, but he has suffered some “structural damage” along the way. He’s bruised, but determined. We tossed the debris of his birth certificate into the air, but it only scratched him. We tossed Solyndra into the spiraling nightmare, but it only grazed his wing. We launched the Fast and Furious case, consistently “adjusted” jobs numbers, and the incineration prone Chevy Volt at him but he navigated his way through their debris trails with only superficial wounds. The Supreme Court may soon deliver a rather crippling blow if they strike down Obama’s legacy, but the big piece of flying debris that will knock His Barackness and his ideology out of the sky forever will be the will of the American people on November 6, 2012.

Today would have been Ronald Reagan’s 101st Birthday. While the greatest President we’ve ever had may be long gone, his name continues to invoke pride or fury, depending upon which side of the political aisle your views tend to fall. The fact that those who oppose even the mention of Reagan’s name are usually the ones with whom I most impetuously disagree has no bearing whatsoever on the selfish entertainment I will draw from writing this piece.

Reagan’s name has been tossed about a lot lately, mostly out of the Newt Gingrich camp. Many have claimed that Newt is simply trying to ride the coattails of a man he admired. Obama will no doubt insinuate that Newt’s obsessed with Reagan as the campaign continues, but when compared to Obama’s obsessions, I’ll forgive it. Beyond the proven relationship Reagan shared with one of the candidates in this race, there are many similarities between the election of 1980 and the one in which we currently find ourselves mired.

The backdrop of the 1980 Presidential Election was eerily similar to the 2012 Election. The country was a mess in 1980 and the overwhelming desire among Americans was for change. So much of the uncertainty we feel today is simply a repeat of the emotions we battled in 1980. The names may have changed, and the issues may have shifted locales, but fear has led us once again to the breaking point. We are staring down the barrel of catastrophic failure right now, just as we were in 1980. The fear we have is not of government failure. It’s not of economic failure although both are at the top of the list. The fear that we collectively battle is the fear of complacency. Every man who has ever been defeated knows that there is a certain tipping point when victory is assured to the opposition. There’s that breaking point when momentum is just another arrow in the quiver of your opponent. We fear as a country that we are dangling over the chasm of such a failure. We fear that the burdens created by those we elect may eventually become too much to bear. If our friends and neighbors give up, our own defenses are useless and we will eventually be forced to give up too. We’re Americans and we do not give up until the fight has literally been beaten out of us, but many are starting to feel like that’s exactly what’s happened.

In January and February of 1980, Former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, George H W Bush was ahead in the polls. He was running against former California Governor Ronald Reagan. Bush had defeated Reagan summarily in the Iowa Caucus, and went on to do the same in 5 additional states. That’s kind of where we stand today. Romney has won several of the initial primaries but I have yet to find anyone who is firmly anchored in the Mitt Romney camp. There seems to be a general feeling, among conservatives, that we’ll vote for him if he’s the nominee but we kind of hope an alternative is presented soon. 

At the conclusion of the 1980 Primary Season, 58% of all Americans disapproved of Carter’s Presidential Record. While blind loyalty, ignorance, and heavily manipulated dissemination of statistics has yet to reveal Obama’s true approval rating, the demand for change seems to be equal to or greater than it was in 1980. Carter continued to run on a platform of “peacemaking.” He touted himself as a great negotiator for peace even while 52 Americans remained classified as hostages in our own embassy in Iran. This arrogance did not sit well with voting public. Sound familiar? Obama has done a good job at securing a few military victories he can claim during the campaign. I’ll give him that. No matter what anyone says, he got Osama bin Laden and that was huge. He’s freed some hostages in Somalia using tactical force and I’m sure we will be led to believe that Barackuda Obamalicious was right there in the thick of the fire-fight by the time the election gets here in November. His victories, however, fall short when compared to the overall defense needs of the United States. He’s like the guy at the gym who only works the “glory muscles.” (Obviously, this is a metaphor….Obama has the musculature of a 14 year old anorexia combatant.)  It’s great to have nice arms, chest, and abs but what happens when someone punches you in the face?

Reagan promised an end to what he referred to as “Trust Me Government.” Once his campaign began picking up steam and he was in a position to do so, he distanced himself from the typical campaign and began to push his idea of Supply-Side Economics. Supply side economics basically means that government gets the heck out of the way and lets America produce (supply) goods and services to inject into their own economy. Such talk would make Barack Hussein Obama’s liberal heart stop, but it’s exactly what we need right now. We need a President who is willing to look at government like he would look at his own house. When times are tough, we get rid of things. Yes, it might suck to “go without cable” for a few months. Our friends might make fun of us for still using an old cell-phone and for the faded appearance of our clothing, but dammit we’ll survive. Barack Obama simply doesn’t see the world that way. To him, and to those that support his misguided ideology, the United States Government is simply a tool for them to use. They do not personally invest in the actions taken by the government they lead. Our money is his to “try things” with. Our military is his to “reform.” Our history is his to decimate. Reagan spent most of his first several months in office tearing down government and getting rid of waste and irrelevance. Obama promises more government involvement and rule. Carter was quick to criticize Reagan’s economic plans but offered no response of his own. Obama swears his economic positions are “what the American people want” yet he fails to address the concerns we have. He condemns any GOP economic plan that strays from liberal orthodoxy, yet he has overseen a Congress that has failed to submit a budget in three years. He’s invested billions of OUR dollars into conclusive failure and he has promised more of the same.

In late October of 1980, Reagan and Carter faced off in a live debate. There had been several debates prior, but Carter refused to participate unless the event was tailored to his campaign needs. He got his wish, but on October 28, 1980, his arrogance and sense of entitlement betrayed him.  Reagan stood by and absorbed Carter’s nonsense as the incumbent President continued to insult the Duke. Reagan smiled and chuckled in a down-home, approachable manner similar to Andy Griffith. There was a charm and a reassurance in his tone that drew people to his side. In his closing remarks, Reagan turned to the camera and asked America “are you better off today than you were four years ago?” The question erased the small lead Jimmy Carter held just days prior to the election and resulted in the most lopsided presidential election in recent history. So what do you think America? It’s 2012…..are you better off than you were in 2008? Has your life improved dramatically as was promised during Barack Obama’s last campaign? Do you feel that America has a better standing in the world than we did when Barack Hussein Obama took office? Do you want more government involvement in your life?

Reagan delivered so much more to this country than just an improved economy, and a strengthened global reputation. Under Reagan’s watch, we pulled ourselves out of the clutches of failure. We didn’t depend on government to do it for us. We didn’t overanalyze manipulated numbers and suckle at the teat of social media for our opinions and needs. We simply went out there and got the job done because we had a government willing to let us fix our own problems. We do not have that now. What we have now is a government willing to destroy all of us as long as we can’t pin the blame on them. We deserve better. We deserve change.

As so many of the ideas for my Monday articles seem to do, this one burst into my mind during Church yesterday. Is God’s Word the authoritative control in your life? That was the question posed to the capacity crowd. Most of us were still in that panicked, running late, “do we have all of our children” frame of mind so the question was a nice, slapping welcome to the service. Sadly, not many of us can honestly answer “yes” to such a question.

Following God is not about actions. It’s not about the things you “do” in the world. Following God is about the very way you live your life. It changes the way you think, the way you speak, the way you raise your children and the way you view the world around them. I’ve said in several previous articles that the decay of morality and decency is crippling us as a country, and I know from feedback I’ve received to such statements that there are a large number of you out there who agree with me. It’s cool to ridicule faith. Ratings are boosted when a show is “courageous” enough to question the legitimacy of Christianity. Kids are told, from a very early age, in our over politicized school system that faith and all things related to Church are not to be discussed while they are in class. Same sex marriages. sensitive political issues, Jersey Shore, American Idol, and other such nonsense is perfectly acceptable, but God is not to be discussed. There seem to be so many explanations in this “progressive” world we’re building around ourselves to suggest that the Word of God is just a bunch of made-up gibberish. It seems scientists all over the globe are just racing to prove all us “zealots” wrong, but guess what……you can’t!

As far as politics go, it actually saddens me that there is not much of a focus on God in this election, but at the same time I believe God’s name gets greatly misused in political circles. The point is that Barack Hussein Obama couldn’t possibly lecture anyone from a pulpit of Faith and Christian morals. If he tried, I honestly believe he would be immediately struck by lightning directly in his condescending face. To truly follow the Word of God means that you can’t pick and choose which parts to follow and which times to follow them. Following God is something that consumes you and while I’m sure there are many fine, Christian men in politics I don’t believe the Word can truly govern the government of our country. Christianity preaches of a Kingdom, where God is the one and only King. Our country is a democracy, which means there are many rulers. We are all the rulers in a democracy (in theory at least). The way our current political system is set up, the two will be at constant friction. Our current political system demands deceit and secrecy. It encourages wild spending and wreaks of backhanded deals. A constant doubt of the Word of God feeds interests that can’t profit in a Faithful environment. We’re led to believe that faith makes us weak and that earthly possessions are all that really matters. We’re talked down to as if we’re somehow “beneath” all the people who don’t need the '”crutch” of Christianity. Blithering idiots like Michael Moore and Bill Maher talk smugly as if their misinformed opinions are so much more worthy of trust than the thousands of years and billions of Believers who speak of Faith and its strength in their lives.

Stop it! Our leaders do not need to be “just like Jesus” in order to run this country the way it needs to be run. Newt Gingrich, no matter how hard he tries, is NEVER going to be Jesus Christ. The closest he could possibly come would be Santa Claus and even that would be a massive, moral stretch. He can confess every behind-the-scenes deal he’s ever made and every political enemy he’s ever wronged. He can confess every marital issue he’s ever swept under the rug and he will still be billions upon billions of miles away from Jesus’ personification of perfection. Mitt Romney probably leads the purest personal life of any of the candidates but greed will come up in almost every discussion about him. Barack Hussein Obama…..not even in the same discussion! Why then do we ask our leaders…..the ones who lead a democracy which is pretty much the exact opposite of a Kingdom…….to lead us as Christians? They can’t! We have to lead them and I think people are finally starting to wake up to that fact. Our politicians are our politicians. They do what we demand of them. They do it cleverly so that they believe everything is their idea, but in the end, they are just our puppets. Romney, Gingrich….it doesn’t really matter as long as we don’t sit by and let them fall asleep at the wheel like the current President has done. Actually, he didn’t fall asleep at the wheel, the battery in his ridiculous little electric car died and his cord isn’t long enough. Stop waiting for a politician to step up and deliver the changes we all want. No man is capable of meeting that much demand. Nor should we allow ourselves to be so lazy as to expect such things from one man, or from our government at all. The changes we all demand are changes that only we as a people can deliver. They are changes that begin in our hearts and spread quickly, as passionately fueled ideas always do. If we truly want to live in a world where politicians are allowed to follow the Word of God in every decision they make, we have to make such ideology acceptable. Not only must it be acceptable, it has to be required. We’re staring down the barrel of an election in which one candidate believes in an obscure, often frowned upon version of God, another is incapable of portraying himself as a fine, Christian man, and the other is Obama. None of them have ever served in the United States Military. None of them have ever done anything that would make them stand out as exemplary humanitarians. (Before any of you nutbags cite Obama’s Nobel Prize, I will remind you that he deserved that award about as much as Kim Kardashian deserves her celebrity.)

In watching the endless debates, primaries, campaign speeches, and downward spiral of Obama’s popularity. anyone would be quick to believe that change is around the corner but for the first time in my life, I feel like it is us who will be delivering the change, not a politician. Reagan oversaw great change in this country because we were in the mood to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and beat back the shame of Carter’s presidency. We’re there again. We’re ready to get back on track and for too long we have sat on the bench watching as ineptitude, immorality, and financial stupidity lead us into catastrophe. We’re at the breaking point and now we’re being told that our fears are unfounded. Whoever ends up getting our vote, Gingrich or Romney, we have to summon the backbone to “make them" do what needs to be done. They’re slaves to trends, so let’s make morality popular again. Let’s make decency the expected norm. Let’s make the voice of the ones who do the most good and the most right the ones that we hear over the crowds of celebrities who do and encourage nothing but harm and more decay.

Obama had his chance and he has blown it. His “investments” if given another four years to plummet like Billy Cundiff’s value to the city of Baltimore, will most certainly bankrupt us. This nonsense about needing to increase the debt ceiling again…..are you kidding me? NO!! You cannot have anymore of our money. You went before the cameras to deliver a State of the Union Address and turned it into another campaign speech. That’s all you do is campaign. You’re a salesman but the problem is that you don’t passionately believe in the product you’re selling. Those kinds of salesmen; the ones who are only chasing the commission, no matter what it’s form, are always ferreted out and run out of business. The salesman who believes in the products he’s selling…..who uses the products in his own home and would happily defend ‘his’ product is the one who usually enjoys the most long-term success. Those who pitch well can sometimes ride the hype to a view sales awards, but when questionable results expose empty promises they are rarely asked to cross the stage at the following year’s awards banquet. Obama gave us his pitch in 2008. 52% of those who voted, fell for the pitch. That means that 52% of the people who voted in the last Presidential election purchased a faulty product and the recall is about to be issued. Changes must be made and it starts with the man sitting in the Oval Office. Not only must he be changed, like a diaper……but the whole concept of The American President needs a facelift. I don’t want a celebrity running my country. I don’t want an athlete running my country. I don’t want a rap-star running my country and I certainly don’t want anyone who can identify more than three members of the Jersey Shore cast at the helm of my country.

I don’t want God running my country either. I want God to run my life and my relationship with those I love. I want God to be the driving force in the lives of my friends, and those with whom I connect. I want God to run the life of the man that runs my country and I want that man to openly embrace the refreshment that knowledge of his faith gives to the people who gave him his title. Faith requires accountability that public office may not be able to support but I’m ready for a man who is at least willing to try. Aren’t you?

Newt-ering the United States…..

Come on…..you don’t get to be in the public eye with a name like “Newt” and escape creative license. Recently, Newt Gingrich claimed that a vote for Ron Paul, Rick Santorum, or Rick Perry was essentially a vote for Mitt Romney. I don’t necessarily believe that. In fact, I whole-heartedly disagree with that. While I can’t personally imagine the stress involved in running for any kind of high-profile office, I’m not ready to trim the list of candidates down to two men just yet. I can certainly understand why Gingrich would want the field narrowed a bit, but I think there is a lot of good that can come from a few more weeks, if not months of competition for the former Speaker of the House. I’m ready to cast my vote for the candidate I believe will lead this country so far beyond the mistakes of the current administration that history remembers Obama as “that guy who made way for [insert candidate name here].” Whoever gets the nod will be completely vetted and his mission will be understood. That doesn’t mean that we will understand HIS mission, but rather that he will clearly understand OURS. We’re not just looking for someone who can beat Obama. While the removal of Obummer is obviously a fundamental first step, it is not the only task our next President will be asked to complete. In other words, memorable speeches, large crowds, and poll results are not going to be the only qualifications of the next President of the United States Of America.

To look at Newt’s website you would believe that Gingrich is definitely the man to lead us away from the catastrophe over which we are now perilously dangling. Where the other candidates simply have an “Issues” tab at the top of their website, Gingrich has a  “Solutions” tab. If it was a CEO’s website, or a coach’s; you might think of the positive spin as a sign of hope but as it stands, on the website of a polished politician with a polished political machine cranking out his web presence, it just comes across as slightly pandering. No matter how sincere the motives behind the tab, it somehow comes across as playing on our negativity strings a little too heavily. The points that fall under the tab are fantastic ideas, but for some reason have been met with doubt until very recently. While Gingrich is surging ahead of the rest of the non-Romney-pack, I’m still not sure he has a complete grasp of what it is that he will be asked to do if he is elected to be our next leader. His mission is still too focused on the campaign and not the years after the campaign. Hey, Newt! We’ve seen what an excellent campaign can do. Obama ran an excellent campaign!

Some of Newt’s solutions include the “Optional Flat Tax Rate of 15%.” It’s an excellent idea, and one that would put so much power back into the hands of the American people where it belongs. Giving people the choice to file their taxes on a single postcard, or with the current system of over-documented, over-calculated, panic inducing, tree killing bureaucracy would surely save billions in annual processing costs and time. Reforming the Federal Reserve to Promote Transparency…..I’m all for it. Newt Gingrich’s “Solutions” include the repeal of several specific laws and acts the average voter couldn’t identify with ten clues and a Sherpa. Newt plans to repeal the Sarbanes / Oxley Act. The act was written hastily as most acts seem to be. It was a knee-jerk reaction to the calamities of Enron and WorldCom but it proved to be absolutely useless against the insolvencies and accounting irregularities of Bear – Sterns, Lehman Brothers, AIG, or Merrill Lynch. Before this act, and all of the confusing regulatory measures it brought with it from the panicked womb of illustrious leaders like Paul Sarbanes (D-MD), it took a company an average of 5 years to climb from creation to initial public offering. We now stand around twelve years with a majority of companies finding safety in their continued status as “privately held.”. Many companies we all know and love today could not have been created under this act. Newt also plans to do away with the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977. This act requires banks to make loans in all communities in which they accept deposits but has instead created a bottleneck of bureaucratic red-tape and regulatory nightmares in terms of access to credit. No matter what the left may say, this act has contributed heavily to the confusion in our mortgage system as well. To that end, Newt plans to break up the cement slippers around the feet of America known as Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and let their smaller successors fight it out in the free market. Excellent idea. Newt plans to get rid of wasteful government departments, especially those departments that so often kill jobs in the name of ideology like the EPA. Newt plans, in fact, to replace the Environmental Protection Agency with the Environmental Solutions Agency. (Sounds like more government involvement to me, but it’s worth a try because it infuriates liberals.) Mr. Gingrich promotes the idea of implementing a new Energy Plan for America. Okay, now you’re veering off course, Mr. Speaker and this is why you still require the competitive accountability imposed upon you by the other candidates still in the race. Any “Energy Plan” that doesn’t call for the complete and immediate evacuation of all government hands from the free market, private and entrepreneurial expansion of our nation’s energy options is quite frankly not good enough. Keep trying.

Newt Gingrich is a horrible husband. It’s no secret. He needs to embrace it, own it, and get past it. His website and his campaign have gone too far in trying to make people forget about is matrimonially challenged personal history. Every page and photo contains info about Callista Gingrich’s involvement in his life. Am I the only one that sees an eerie similarity between the public, almost scripted marriage of Newt and Callista Gingrich and another business-couple running for President in 1992? He keeps trying to draw similarities between himself and Reagan, but there will never be another Reagan. Someday we might be saying “there will never be another Gingrich” if he can get past this mentality that he has to be leading the campaign in January. I’m not asking you to marry me any more than I’m asking Romney to be my spiritual advisor, Newt. Stop the negative attacks and get out there and passionately defend and deliver your messages. Get behind the ideas you supposedly believe in. Nobody has heard you make mention of the acts you plan to repeal because they might not be popular in certain demographics. Get over that crap and get your message out there. As it stands right now, you have just put a bunch of words on a website. You have listed all the benefits of the grand ideas you have for your time in office, but you have failed to list how you will get any of the ideas passed.

Ron Paul has done exactly those things. While I believe Dr. Paul is smoking the pot of his supporters on many issues, I do believe that the man has a passionate reasoning behind his mission. He spells out that mission quite clearly throughout his own website. As unlikely as his presidency may be, Ron Paul does lay out a very convincing timeline and plan for balancing the budget. In fact, if elected, he swears he can get it done by year three. He’s got graphs, statistics, and well organized data to support his plan. Newt has none of those things. Ron Paul vows to end the Federal Reserve if elected. I’m all for that. The Federal Reserve was created under sneaky circumstances on Christmas Eve of 1913 and has operated under the cloak of secrecy ever since. Recently, the Federal Reserve convinced Americans that the economy would never recover without unprecedented bailouts. We now know, because of the efforts of passionate men like Dr. Paul, that at the peak of the Fed’s “emergency lending” over 90% of it’s discount window loans were made to foreign banks. In fact, there were a total of 70 loans made to the Bank of Libya. When pressed about the issue, good-old Bernanke reminded Congress that they do not have the power or authority to audit the mighty Federal Reserve. Ron Paul aims to change that drastically and he has a clear, if not ill-conceived, plan to do so. He’s passionate about his stance. Where’s Newt’s passion?

Newt’s passion seems to lie only in the title of frontrunner. He’s passionate about poll results, campaign numbers, and headlines. Those things win elections, but America is already looking far beyond Election Day. Right now, Mitt Romney seems to be the only one on our side with that same mentality. When Newt gets out there and starts spreading the word about his ideas for the future instead of his association with Reagan, his disdain for Bain, and his over-the-top defense of his marriage then maybe he will surge ahead of the Mighty Mormon but for now you remain in second place. You’re not ready for a two man race to the nomination just yet and neither are we. Your mission needs the spit shine of competition, Mr. Gingrich. Embrace it, use it, give us a choice.

They’re Counting On the Sheep…..

As so many of my ideas seem to arrive in my head, so did the launching point for today’s article whilst sitting in Church yesterday. (As did the idea to toss a “whilst” at you from the opening line of said article!) Anyway, during the very well received sermon yesterday morning, Isaiah 53:6 was read……”We all, like sheep, have gone astray. Each of us has turned to his own way.” While I’m sure there have been many more clever ways of expressing the same sentiments over the years, surely none have carried more weight. Their impact comes from the truth they carry. We have lost our way, but not just spiritually. Oh no, my friends…..we have a long way to go before we even reach the starting point of a spiritual journey. I’m talking about all the other paths we have chosen to follow as a country. We’re sheep. I know it’s a tired, played out analogy that radio hosts like to throw around amidst annoying sound effects and shameless plugs, but it doesn’t make it any less accurate. We are sheep. Each and every one of us.

Sheep are dumb. Sheep are happily oblivious to the fact that they are being led to slaughter. They are only concerned with following. They willingly walk to their deaths for the sake of being “part of the crowd.” Do we not do the same thing? Again I ask you, if we are not mindless sheep following the ideas and say-so of someone else, then how do you explain Ugg Boots? How do you explain the popularity of Chihuahuas? Someone popular did it, so we must also do it. It’s ingrained in us at an early age and sadly, it gets worse the older you get. Sheep are defenseless. Have you ever seen a sheep taking charge and leading the herd? They move as an amorphous blob, with no identifiable leader or direction among them. They are completely dependent upon outside influence. Again, if someone can draw a legitimate difference between the behavior of a herd of sheep and the majority of the US Population then I will gladly hear it. I’m betting anyone with enough intelligence to articulate such a thought also has enough wits to know one would be inaccurate. We follow. No matter how strong a person believes themselves to be, they are following something. There is someone ahead of you that keeps you moving in one direction. You don’t have to admit out loud, we all know it’s true. The rich follow the expense. The beautiful follow the attention. The weak follow the loud. The strong follow the challenge. We all follow something, even if that something is leading us to the slaughter. Sheep are filthy. Dogs clean themselves; birds have bird baths: cats even have the luxury of plopping down in the most inopportune spot and doing that weird, stretchy leg, butt to ankle in one swipe of the tongue thing. (Seriously, it’s creepy!) Have you ever seen a sheep bathing itself? No! Can you imagine wearing a thick, wool suit into the pool? A sheep’s hygiene really has nothing to do with this analogy, I just wanted to put that cat image in your heads. Sorry.

We’ve all been led astray. Those who deny such a claim have been led astray by their own arrogance. There is only one Shepherd’s Call to which our ears should be tuned, but unfortunately that’s just not the way He designed His flock. While living our lives, and running our country, and our homes according to the Word of God would be a terrific way of doing things, it’s simply not possible from where we stand today. There are myriad common sense changes we must make just to clear the path to the starting line of a collective spiritual journey, but that’s not to say we don’t get out the machetes and start the revolution. That’s the general feeling I get as we open this new year. Americans are sick of the “doom and gloom” mentality. The world is not going to end this year and we’re sick of being told to prepare as if it is. The United States of America is not too far gone and the people who make up this great country are getting a good old fashioned revolutionary feeling in their bones. It has nothing to do with the horrendous political landscape before us but more to do with the overall attitudes being shoved down our throats. There seems to be a general feeling of community as we look at the months ahead. There seems to be a sense of hope and encouragement no politician could possibly deliver. This is the kind of determined will that only the people of the United States can deliver to the world. It was not a politician that brought about the industrialization of the world. The presidents overseeing the information age have had about as much to do with it as I had to do with the Miracle on Ice. The American spirit brought about the significant ages of our country and the same will hold true in our very near future. We have to take that first step. Unelecting (that’s copyrighted, by the way) our current President will be a good start, but even more important is who succeeds him. Will it be another politician stubbornly loyal to the views of his party or will it finally be another “step back and let America do what America does best” type of leader. (Yes, any kind of ‘leader’ would be an improvement!) The changes we want can only be delivered by us, and I think people are finally starting to wake up to that fact. We need to make some common sense changes, but we are the ones who will make them.

CEO salaries when compared to the average employee are running at a ratio of 320:1. depending on which source you believe. Some list it as high as 475:1 but with the convoluted mess we have allowed to fester in terms of pay structures and stock options and incentives…….okay, I get it! Some changes are needed but to demand a ratio of 1:1 is even more absurd. Everyone in this country is not equal.  Everyone in this country could be given the chance to contribute equally to a common goal, but such a dream is centuries away from the world we’ve built around ourselves. Common sense will tell us that CEO’s are taking advantage, in some cases, but not all of them. Do I believe that the guy smoking pot out behind the Jack In The Box up the street from my house deserves to make the same salary as the genius behind all those commercials? NO!! I do not! Changes are needed but they will not be the over-inflated, skewed changes depicted in carefully written political speeches.

Morality waved bye-bye to the United States about the time Paris Hilton was given a primetime TV show. Kids in California are being read stories by an active pornstar and driven to same sex wedding ceremonies during school hours because both have been deemed “teachable moments.” You know what; you’ve derailed! America is ready to take back the futures of our children from the catastrophic failure that is our Public School System. PLEASE do not read that as me saying there are no good teachers out there. There are terrific teachers in almost every school in the country. They are sincere in their mission but restrained by the greed of their unions and the system they own. There seems to be movement in the attitudes on that front as well. We’re ready to inject morality back into the lives of our kids who are learning confusing concepts well before the innocence of their youths have expired.

Free speech is a concept worth defending, but America seems ready to take it back from those who use it as a channel for their own lunacy. Yes, you have the right to say what you want, but that does not mean you get to impact the life of my children because your own beliefs are somehow more protected than my rights as a parent. That’s not what the founding fathers had in mind. I will gladly defend the idea of free speech in this country but I believe such a concept gives no shelter to men like the cowards at Westboro Baptist Church. The concept of free speech assumed that the men and women of this country would apply enough common sense to it’s use that law would not have to intervene.

This country is tired of being led to the slaughter by sadistic shepherds. Our leaders spend our money on things we don’t want. They spend our money on things that do absolutely nothing to enhance the future we hope to see. They do all this while we continue to follow one another to the slaughtering house. No more. Like a gawky, teenage boy entering puberty, our collective voices are beginning to change from the timid bleats of the lambs our leaders believe us to be into the intimidating roars of the lions we have always been. We will take back control of not only the political leadership in this country, but also the general direction in which we seem to be headed. Take control wherever you see an opportunity. Demand more from those who call themselves our ‘leaders.’ In fact, demand they refer to themselves as our ‘servants’ because that’s all they are. This idea that an elected official is better than the people they represent has come to an end. This is our year, dammit!

Thanksgiving…..

Do you think the Pilgrims, fresh off their previous label as “Christian Separatists”, prepared the first Thanksgiving Turkey according to Islamic Law? I highly doubt it. Apparently, somewhere along the way, Butterball Turkey got the impression that Thanksgiving was not an American or a religious holiday. Butterball gave into the demands of some form of lunacy and began slaughtering and preparing their turkeys in accordance with Islamic Law. The Butterball Turkey that you buy, prepare and bless in your own home with your family this holiday has already been blessed in Islam. How does that make you feel? Does it make you feel like standing up and voting some people right out of office? I sure hope it does. Not only out of office, but out of American leadership altogether. I’m not just talking about politics either. It’s time the logical, moral, Christian majority of this country stand up and squash the lunacy that surrounds us, but that’s a rant for another day. That’s a rant for a day when rage is released through printed word and hopefully sparks action, but today’s article is about Thanksgiving itself. The history of the holiday is interesting and worth exploring.

 

Liberals beware: we’re about to discuss actual history, not the made up fantasy world you try to shove down our throats. You might want to step off here.

 

• 1621 – Pilgrims went “fowling” in the woods around their community. Most likely hunted for geese and ducks since turkeys were much harder to capture and written accounts of the events suggest there were as many as 90 birds gathered for the feast. Thanksgiving, among the Pilgrims was a religious feast designed to acknowledge God’s blessing in some facet of daily life. Perhaps a good harvest, perhaps the end of a drought or an ample hunt; thanksgiving feasts were held as regularly as humiliation fasts. While the 50 or so villagers gathered for the feast, they noticed the Wampanoag Indians gathered at the gated entrance of their primitively fortified  community. The pilgrims welcomed the savage strangers and the two groups socialized peacefully for several days. The result of the rather raucous party was a 54 year peace treaty between the Colonists and the Wampanoag.
• Before you left-wing nutbags start claiming this as the first example of open immigration policies, let me remind you that the Wampanoag WENT HOME after the party. They came in, behaved appropriately, honored the customs of their hosts and graciously offered gifts from their own. Nowhere in any of the accounts of the first thanksgiving is there mention of a union demanding that the colonists abandon their religious beliefs, their spoken language, or their customs in order to spare the feelings of the visitors.

 

• 1789 – The first official Thanksgiving holiday was proclaimed by President George Washington. Congress had urged, and Washington agreed that “Thursday, 26 November, 1789 as a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favours of Almighty God.” After  1798, the decision of celebration was left to the individual states. The South was reluctant to adopt what they viewed as a religious holiday.
• Wow, how times have changed. Imagine a Congress free to make legal suggestions with religious overtones. Heck, just imagine a politician brave enough to openly attach their names and in some instances, their life to a belief such as God’s necessity in the rule of our country. Wouldn’t that be amazing? These guys didn’t just talk about God during campaign season. No, they believed in His Word so fervently they were willing to die to give us the chance to worship freely. Think of the bravest human being you know and tell me if you honestly believe they would have the courage to do what the Founding Fathers did.

 

• 1867 – President Andrew Jackson declares last Thursday in November as National Thanksgiving Day. Prayers were spoken in public. Future liberals  wept.
• Ronald Reagan got his political inspiration from somewhere. Anyone ever studied Andrew Jackson? Fascinating.
• “Without sacrifice there can be no blessing”

 

• 1876 – Yale played Princeton in what is widely believed to be the first ever Thanksgiving Day Football game. After forming the Intercollegiate Football Association the previous day, the two teams played the first rugby-style football game. It was an answer to the “rather rowdyish and less scientific” style of ball being cheered for at Harvard.
• I would just like to point out that the phrase “rather rowdyish” and the word “scientific” have no place in a discussion about football. Several violations of man-code in that sentence alone.

 

• 1939 – 1941 – President Franklin Delano Roosevelt moved Thanksgiving back a week in order to extend the Christmas shopping season.
• FDR – the father of Social Security; the man who enacted laws to officially recognize unions in the American workforce; creator of the welfare state; overseer of the Great Depression……surely this man was a liberal, right? Surely such a great liberal would not have done something that so obviously and directly enhanced capitalism, but it’s true. FDR extended Christmas shopping season by simply moving a national holiday. Can you imagine if Obama tried to move Christmas? People’s faces would literally melt with rage!
• Texas and Colorado didn’t agree with the “New Deal Thanksgiving” but were forced to celebrate as it was federally mandated. In defiance, both states formally celebrated Thanksgiving twice those years!

 

• November 26, 1966 – Cowboys 26   Browns 14
• The Cowboys have hosted a rotating list of AFC opponents every Thanksgiving Day since. America’s Team is 27-15-1 in their traditional battle. (Let’s go get number 28!)

 

Thanksgiving is still a distinctly American holiday for obvious reasons. Like so many of the facts that have been twisted and erased from our history in a storm of political correctness, Thanksgiving is based on religious principles. Whether you look to the actual feast between Pilgrims and the Wampanoag, or if you look to President Washington’s first declaration of Thanksgiving as a National Holiday; both were based on religious compass. Tomorrow, when the kids are running around like sugared-up crackheads, the turkey is taking longer than expected, the sweater your wife made you wear is causing you to sweat in places you normally don’t sweat, and your pants are mysteriously too small…..remember that it is through the difficult times that we see our most precious memories. Thanksgiving is not just a day to be thankful for the good things. We must also make sure we take the time to acknowledge the difficult times and give thanks for the lessons learned. Life in colonial America was not always easy. There were diseases we’ve never heard of and winters we can’t imagine. The men and women who survived, and welcomed the strange savages into their community, were suffering through the most difficult time in America’s history yet they didn’t know it. In their heads, they were exploring new lands and just trying to make a better life for themselves and their families. Can you imagine what the Pilgrims would say to the sight of America today? Set aside all the technological and medical advancements; set aside the aesthetic differences of our times. What do you think the Pilgrims would say about our morals and our general way of thinking? What do you think the Pilgrims would say about our misinterpretation of their vision?

I’ll leave you with this thought…..The Pilgrims made seven times as many graves as they made huts yet they still managed to set aside a day of thanksgiving. Shouldn’t we do everything in our power to truly honor what sprung from that noble pursuit? Pray, feast, and relax because tomorrow is a new day and you will have missed your opportunity to do so.

Leadership Void…..

Well….do you feel led? Do you feel as though the man at the helm of the sinking ship that is the United States Government is a  leader according to the definition above? The man who spoke the words in the quote above was more than certified to speak on the topic of leadership. Is the man pictured below?

The audience I imagine reading my words; the people I hope feel a sense of connection to the messages contained in my articles are definitely not the kind of people who would answer yes to such an absurd question. There is absolutely no leadership whatsoever in the current White House Administration. None.

There, I believe that should have gotten rid of any overly caffeinated liberals simply trolling for locker room motivation. (I know, they don’t believe in competition and a locker room would only separate the genders and would therefore be unacceptable in a liberal world, but you get my point, right?) I’m not just spewing anti-liberal / anti-Obama rhetoric in those words. I can find no definition of a leader that could truthfully be attached to our current president. Using the definition above, the one by John Quincy Adams; Obama has done nothing to inspire others to dream beyond the color of his/their skin. Has he inspired you to learn more? Honestly? Has Barrack Hussein Obama inspired you to do anything but run and hide and wait for the storm of his lunacy to pass?

People have died as a result of this administration’s arrogance. Yes, soldiers died under Bush. Yes, 9/11 happened on Bush’s watch. Did you ever once see Bush shift the blame onto the American people themselves? Did you ever once hear Bush refer to us as “lazy”? Did Bush’s Attorney General sign off on an operation that handed over the keys to the plane’s used in that horrific attack? Did Bush then act as if questioning his or his cabinet’s direct and proven involvement in those events was an absurd right-wing smear tactic? No. The only answer that should be coming from your mouth right now is “no”. Anything else is simply a lie. I’m sick of being told that I “just don’t get it” or that I’m not “enlightened enough” to see the greater plan at work with the Obama administration. There is no plan. His “plan” is to take his wife, you know…..the one that looks like an extra from a movie about prison riots, and travel around the globe at taxpayer expense. Have you noticed that all the ‘critically important’ trips our fearless leader seems to take are in tropical locations? Do they not have summits in Northern Europe anymore?

I am not a racist because I believe we can do better than a president who uses our tax money like his own personal checking account. I am not a racist because I believe our president should march Eric Holder directly to the front doorstep of Kent and Josephine Terry’s home so that he may deliver a heartfelt apology for the death of their son. I am not a racist because I want a president who openly admits his failings instead of looking down his nose at me as if I am to blame for his ineptitude. I am not a racist because I cringe every time I see Barrack Hussein Obama ‘honoring’ our military with obvious disdain scrawled across his arrogant face. I am not a racist because I demand a president who would not have signed off on projects that put billions of dollars of taxpayer money at risk. (Solyndra, Smallpox research, Light Squared, etc)

I could not care less what color the skin of our president happens to be. Failure is failure. It doesn’t matter if it emanates from the blue flesh of an Avatar, it’s still failure. Smiling and reporting that everything’s “all good” simply doesn’t make it so.

Good leaders develop through a never ending process of self-study, education, training, and experience. A man like our current president simply tells us that he’s done all those things. The problem is that those things; the education, the genuine passion to lead and to lead well, can only be faked for about the length of a campaign. When it comes time to do the actual work required of a leader, falsified qualifications are easily spotted. Misplaced loyalty or loyalty given to those who serve only themselves and not the governed, are ferreted out with ease. Barry and all his little frat brothers are going to learn that lesson as soon as vote-counting begins next November. Well, at least they will be given the chance to learn that lesson. Their arrogance will most likely negate the wisdom available to them.

I want a leader who is passionate about the success of America. Not just one who makes clever speeches, or points to limited success in another area of their life as reason to trust them with the future of America. I want someone who wakes up every morning with the same drive, passion, and desire to lead this country as I do about writing my book and these articles. That’s the very least I think we should expect yet I’m not so sure we have been given that option as of yet. If we have been given such an option, the political system we’ve created for ourselves is doing its best to keep them quiet and in line with the established way of doing things. I believe that system requires the following: (1) Investigate all sexual relationships because sex is obviously the most important qualification. (2) Attack him / her for things that have no bearing whatsoever on the candidate’s ability to lead. (3) Lock onto one misstep in speech, fashion, or family and drive qualified people away from the race in favor of those who look good on camera. (4) Check with the most vocal of celebrities to see if they have granted us our opinion yet.

Bush never gave an overly eloquent speech and he sure as hell didn’t shine in any debates. Reagan obviously looked good on camera, but so did Clinton. Only one of those men based their political career on appearance and “charm”. The other man simply behaved as he would when the cameras were not around. One man lied about diddling fat chicks while the other brought sledge-hammers to the Berlin Wall. (See if you can guess which was which.) My point is that the qualified candidate IS out there. He or she may even be one of the candidates with whom we are already familiar but we have got to allow ourselves to see beyond the established template of campaign. We have to look beyond those stories that grab sensationalized media adhesion and look for the candidate who will passionately lead this country back to the pride we felt under men who didn’t fake their sincerity or their citizenship.

I often write about my overt disdain for all things liberal, but in a recent article I asked readers if they believed their children were strong enough to stand up and defend their conservative values in the face of the boisterous opposition. That opposition is often made to look ‘cool’ or enticing to young people through liberal strongholds in media, education, unions, and entertainment. Sadly, these sectors of our society hold more of our children’s attention than parental guidance can ever hope to obtain. Matters once considered to be exclusively those of a family are now openly viewed as “teachable moments” in our school systems. To insure that indoctrination occurs prior to family involvement, teaching of subjects once considered risqué at the collegiate level of American education are now being introduced as early as possible. Sexual discussions take place in first grade classrooms and to question the morality of this grossly inappropriate attack is considered bigotry. To suggest there’s too much vulgarity, or exposure to adult matters on TV means you’re not “progressive enough”.

It occurs to me that the best way to combat this ever-expanding indoctrination of our children is to arm them with facts, often and early. During a discussion with my own children recently, I was humbly surprised to discover the level of confusion when it comes to matters of Liberal versus Conservative. Despite what kids will tell you, they emulate what they see at home. If kids see their parents react negatively to a blatantly liberal slant in the media coverage of just about anything, they might feel negatively about an issue but not understand why they feel that way. I refuse to tell my children what to think, but I feel it’s my biggest responsibility as a parent to lead them down the right path as far as I can. At some point they will be on their own and free to live their lives, educate their own children, and view the world around them any way they choose. It is my job to lay the foundation upon which those future decisions will be based. Blindly voting because it’s what you’ve been ‘told’ to do is just as bad as voting for an unqualified candidate, regardless of party affiliation. Arm them with facts. That’s all you can do. (That doesn’t mean you can’t put your own spin on the facts as I have so graciously done in the outline below!)

Here are the facts as I see them…..use them to separate what is ‘said’ from what is ‘real’……use them to defend your own views as well as those of your family:

Liberals	CONSERVATIVES
ABORTION: Government should provide taxpayer assisted abortions to help women who can’t afford children kill their unborn fetuses. Heartbeat does NOT equal life and therefore the fetus has no individual rights.	ABORTION: Human life begins at conception. As a living being, the fetus has rights separate from the mother so abortion is murder. It’s important that your children know the difference between YOU and the nutbags blowing up abortion clinics. That’s who their teachers and media influences will point to in their arguments for abortion.
AFFIRMATIVE ACTION: Government should work to insure that all those whose ancestors were once horribly mistreated in this country now receive free housing, career, presidential nominations, and Nobel Prizes.	AFFIRMATIVE ACTION: Earn your job, your money, your possessions, and your rewards. The color of your skin, your sexual orientation, your religion, and your appearance have nothing to do with it. If you didn’t earn something, don’t expect it to be given to you!
DEATH PENALTY: Someone who murders another human being in a horrific, meticulously planned manner has “rights” and should be humanely treated at taxpayer expense for the rest of his or her natural life.	DEATH PENALTY: If you take my child, my wife, my parent, or my brother from me…..I get to watch you die. Plain and simple. I don’t give a damn about your ‘rights’ and I certainly don’t think a penny of my taxes should go toward making sure you get three meals a day in front of a cable television.
ECONOMY: Give the government everything you can and then give some more. They are better equipped to spend your money than you are. You’re a peasant.	ECONOMY: Keep your money and spend it how you see fit, just spend it in America. Conservatives believe that economic growth starts with the citizens living in the economy, not the government stealing from it.
EDUCATION: Public education is the only way to keep the liberal voting unions happy and it is the only way to insure that your children are properly indoctrinated at an early age. You can’t be trusted to choose an appropriate school for your own children, the government needs to do that for you.	EDUCATION: A Voucher system would encourage competition and promote better performance. Schools promoting ideological lunacy would no longer receive your tax-money under this system and such institutions would eventually crumble. Teachers could be awarded based on performance rather than tenure.
STEM CELL RESEARCH: Embryonic Stem Cell research is okay because, as previously discussed, a fetus has no rights. The blastocyst used in this type of research has no human features yet. That’s their stance. That’s their big justification. They don’t look like humans yet so kill ‘em.	STEM CELL RESEARCH: Supports the use of adult and umbilical cord stem cells only. Stem cells are widely believed to carry answers to medical questions which have gone universally unanswered for centuries. Stem cells could provide clues to everything from curing diseases to reducing the impact of a physical deformation. Conservatives simply don’t believe a baby should have to be aborted in order to conduct said research. Effective cells can be harvested by other, non-baby-killing means.
ENERGY: While the left has not yet found a way to convince the easily fooled that we no longer need energy, they have managed to convince an alarming number of people that government is the only entity capable of exploring alternative energy sources. In other words; “give us your money and we’ll make sure we find a replacement for oil.” Liberals promote clean energy, but believe that government is the only one capable of researching it.	ENERGY: Government has made a colossal mess of the energy situation in our country. Enron was a criminal debacle and is often pointed to as a reason for government involvement in energy exploration. Please let your children know that a few greedy executives taking all of their employee’s money and running for the hills has nothing to do with competition and ingenuity among the private sector. What they did was despicable, but it does not mean you should hand more of your money to the government when they have conclusively failed to act thus far. They have created a system where action is impossible.
GLOBAL WARMING: Al Gore said it, so it must be true. Liberals believe that global warming is caused by our constant burning of fossil fuels and the carbon dioxide such actions create.	GLOBAL WARMING: Al Gore said it, so it must be BS! Conservatives believe humans are not capable of controlling nature but that environmental care is a good idea for logical reasons. No evidence can be shown to indicate change in temperatures is related to impact of man. Actions called for by the left would only lead to increased government presence, expense, and inflation. (Seriously, Read Michael Crichton’s State of Fear. It’s simply the best anti-liberal weapon you can have regarding Global Warming. Plus, a liberal gets eaten by the savages he’s trying to ‘save’)
GUN CONTROL: People don’t need guns, only the police and other enforcement agencies should be allowed to carry guns. (See Operation Fast and Furious)	GUN CONTROL: The Second Amendment to the US Constitution clearly defines our right to keep and bear arms. Do not let your children be convinced that the Second Amendment only allows for a state to keep a militia (i.e. National Guard) as liberals love to claim. in 1787, when the Amendment was written, a ‘militia’ referred to armed citizens using their own weapons to defend themselves, their land, and their families.
HEALTH CARE: Government should be in charge of that too. Give us more money. (See Obama-care)	HEALTH CARE: Privately funded healthcare means competition, research, and results driven care. The government should not be able to force sub-par health care upon us. Why should I be covered with the same care and level of knowledge as the gang member who was shot by another gang member over a nonsense based turf-war when I can afford better coverage in a private hospital? Because the government couldn’t rob me that way, that’s why!
HOMELAND SECURITY: They don’t care, just give ‘em more money!	HOMELAND SECURITY: Secure our borders, profile everyone regardless of their “feelings”. The terrorists that conducted the 9-11 Attacks were very well trained to blend into our society. The only similar characteristics they shared were their skin-tones, language, and religion. If you’re not a terrorist, criminal, or illegal immigrant then you shouldn’t be worried. Don’t let your children believe that their “freedoms” are being stolen in the name of security. That’s just ACLU hogwash!
IMMIGRATION: Let everyone in as long as they are willing to vote democrat and of course, give more money to government. Porous borders do not pose a security threat. Let’s sit in a big drum-circle and find more ways to waste taxpayer money, time, and resources.	IMMIGRATION: Conservatives prescribe to the silly notion that people allowed to vote, receive taxpayer funded government benefits, receive taxpayer funded healthcare, or receive permanent employment in this country should be US Citizens. Just because you sneaked into the country and had a baby, that doesn’t mean you get a chunk of my income. Learn the language, the traditions, the customs, and the history of this great country before you destroy it from within, please. No, that does not make me a bigot. It does not make me uneducated; a hillbilly; unenlightened, or any other annoying name you can conceive. It makes me an AMERICAN!
RELIGION: God and Christmas don’t generate a steady stream of income yet. They must be banned. Mentioning God in any fashion may offend the sensitive ears of the people in our country that pray to another god, or don’t pray at all. Liberals believe “separation of church and state” is a law. Liberals often chastise Christians, making light of our beliefs; deeming religion to be a tool of the weak. While there may be some very devout Christian liberals out there, it would be quickly determined that they are (1) only ‘liberal’ on a few issues or (2) Godless heathens who don’t know the first thing about Faith.	RELIGION: Separation of church and state is NOT a law! In fact, the words do not even appear in any federal documents. The idea came from a letter by Thomas Jefferson written in 1802 to the Danbury Baptist Association. In it, he described the need for government to stay out of ruling the church but called for God to influence EVERY decision made in government. Our country was founded by Christian men. That’s a fact. If you choose not to pray to a Christian God, that’s the right afforded you by the sacrifice of men who did. That does NOT mean you get to tell me to stop praying or to stop celebrating the birth of MY SAVIOR. When Mecca allows a cross atop the Ka’ba to satisfy my “feelings”, I’ll allow “In God We Trust” to be removed from our currency. Deal?
WELFARE: Kids, if you study, get good grades for the first eighteen years of your life, show up to work every day and work as hard as you can; make sound financial decisions; save your money and provide for your family……you should have to give most of your money to the government so they can in turn give it to someone who has done NONE of those things. Liberals believe that welfare promotes equality and gives the poor the chance they need. (See Welfare Checks Cashed in California Casinos)	WELFARE: Conservatives believe we should stop giving handouts to those who are simply milking the system. Parents raising special needs children, people with true disabilities, and wounded warriors are about the only exception I’m willing to concede. You don’t get MY money just because you are too lazy or too intentionally stupid to earn your own. Take a bath, hippie!

I guess the best way to summarize the differences between conservatives and liberals, in a manner your children will be able to comprehend and recite, is as follows:

Liberals hate success, individual wealth, security, Jesus, Santa, and babies. (Probably puppies and cake too.) Conservatives hate liberals.
